THE PRODUCER
THE PRODUCER
The Musasa “Dukunde Kawa” co-operative has four washing stations, situated in the Gakenke District of Rwanda’s Northern Province. Ruli was the co-op’s first washing station, built in 2003 at a particularly high altitude of nearly 2000m. The coffee cherries are smallholder produced, with the farmers delivering their fresh harvest to Ruli CWS.

CITY
BRIGHT, MODERN,
FRUIT-FORWARD FLAVOURS.
Red Bourbon arabica always delivers a sugary, flavoursome cup profile, especially when grown at high altitude. Perfectly ripe coffee cherries are slow-dried on raised beds in the cooler mountain air lending the coffee a sweet fragrance, fruity notes and flavoursome finish.
How to brew
We normally lean toward filter brewing for the producer series as the method highlights the more complex and delicate flavours in lighter roasted coffee. As always, we default to the industry standard of 60g of coffee per litre of water as a starting point.
For espresso try a 1:2.5 brew ratio and shot times of around 24-30 seconds
Tasting notes
Chocolaty, floral and fruity in the aroma and with a syrupy body laced with raisin, cocoa and cherry flavours. The medium roast profile chosen here gives the espresso a toasty-fruity depth and pleasing texture, but the coffee works equally well as batch brew for mugs of delicious breakfast coffee.
