This month is Plastic-Free July, a global initiative to highlight the need for, and progress towards, removing more plastic from our every-day lives. We are using Plastic-Free July to highlight some of the steps we, at Dark Woods Coffee, are taking towards becoming plastic-free.

In the Autumn of 2022, we launched our new design, plastic-free, compostable, kilogram bag. We love our new bags. They look striking and tactile, thanks to the kraft-paper outer layer. They are made from plant-based materials, and inks; the bag material is fully home-compostable, while the small valve is industrially compostable.

Primarily used to supply our wholesale café-customers, our compostable bags are also used for our home-customer, online shop.

We have become very creative in how we dispose of used kilogram bags now, from straightforward dropping them in our garden composter, to shredding them for hen-house bedding and even using them to plant seedlings in our kitchen garden.
