Cafe Days at the Mill 2019

by Tom WIlkinson

Contrary to appearances, our Mill space is a working roastery and training space rather than a permanent café, but it is a very popular venue for our one-off events. We've hosted music gigs, events and coffee-tasting evenings over the years, but our most popular alternative incarnation is as a place to come and enjoy our coffees alongside a locally baked cake or pastry, during our pop-up café days. Despite irregular scheduling and some very last-minute attempts at publicity these café days are always busy and we usually get asked to do more so, this year, we've decided to make things a bit more straightforward and open up every last Saturday of the month until October. We've bought some lovely new furniture and a proper till and can't wait to see you down here for a coffee.

Thanks to our friends at Roaming Rumpus and Zapato Brewery there will also be hot food available all day from the amazing Mad Max-styled Roaming Rumpus mobile kitchen and the chance to sample some adventurous local craft beers later in the day, from the bijou Zapato brewery tap which sits at the end of our mill building. Factor in a stroll along the canal toward Marsden or Slawit and you've probably earned it. Cakes are usually supplied by Oliver James Sugarcraft (Wired Coffee Shop) in Honley; pork pies from Hinchliffes Farm Shop and pastries from Roger's Bakery in Marsden.

Our pop-up café days are from 9.30am to 3.00pm on the following dates:

  • Saturday 30th March
  • Saturday 27th April
  • Saturday 25th May
  • Saturday 29th June
  • Saturday 27th July
  • Saturday 31st August
  • Saturday 28th September
  • Saturday 26th October

To answer a few frequently asked questions:

  • Yes, we will have at least one gluten-free cake option (until it has sold out)
  • Yes, we have non-dairy milk (oat, soya, almond)
  • Yes, you can have tea (we serve a range of teas from Canton Tea)
  • Yes, dogs are welcome in our outside seating area but, unfortunately, not inside the mill

We'll see you at the Zapato tap room bar for a much needed beer at the end of a busy day of slinging espresso and slicing cakes.
